A Safe Haven Enterprise visa, allows a person to whom Australia is found to owe protection obligations, to stay in Australia for five years. This visa allows access to Medicare, social security benefits, job matching, short term counselling for torture or trauma, and for minors, access to education.
Travel outside Australia for compassionate or compelling reasons is allowed provided such travel is approved by the Department and not to the country from which the person sought protection.
To be eligible for this visa, a person needs to demonstrate a willingness to undertake paid work or study in regional Australia. If you are granted this visa and then work or study (or do both) in regional Australia for 42 months of the five years, you may be eligible to apply for other substantive visas, other than a permanent Protection visa.
