The Federal Circuit Court arrangements in Melbourne due to Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

The Federal Circuit Court closures in Melbourne Coronavirus COVID-19

May 2020

The Federal Circuit Court arrangements due to COVID-19 (Coronavirus pandemic)

When your case is initially filed in the Federal Circuit Court a date will be stamped on the front page of your documents.  This is a date for the first directions hearing.  A directions hearing is arranged in order to set a timetable for lodging of documents and proceeding with your case.  This is not the final hearing for your case.

The Federal Court has announced that there will be no attendance required at court during the Covid-19 closures. This will continue until at least 30 June 2020.

If your case is listed before 30 June 2020, you will be contacted by the lawyer acting for the Minister with proposed orders setting out a timetable for the proceeding of your case. You may agree with the proposed orders and sign proposed consent orders.  If you do not agree with the proposed consent orders, the Court will make orders on the day of your directions hearing.

If your case is listed after 1 July 2020, the Court anticipates that the directions hearing will proceed in person.  You, or your legal representative will be advised in writing if alternative arrangements are put in place.
